During summer months energy usage is at its peak. When demand for electricity exceeds supply, outages can be triggered, and the most polluting generating resources are used. To reduce outage risks, and lower polluting air and greenhouse gas emissions, the state offers programs that pay businesses to temporarily reduce their electricity use.
You can easily save one kilowatt by turning off ten 100-Watt light bulbs; 20 fluorescent fixtures; electric motors; refrigeration compressors; heavy-duty appliances and adjusting the thermostat in air conditioners.
