Case Study:
Alonzo Printing & Congregational Emanu-El

Alonzo Printing

Alonzo Printing is a full-service commercial printer in Hayward. Alonzo adopted a variety of practices that lower energy and resource use, and reduce waste. Use of recycled paper avoids deforestation and prevents the release of nearly 5,000 tons of green-house gas emissions annually, while efficiency improvements to printing equipment and lighting reduced overhead costs and further avoided emissions.  Currently, SF Community Power is working with Alonzo on promoting reduced private vehicle usage and looking into organizing a shuttle system directly from BART to the Alonzo office.

San Francisco's Congregation Emanu-El is one of
the largest synagogues and community centers on the West Coast with a membership of more than 2,700 households. Committed to the Judaic principle of environmental stewardship, Emanu-El saved more than $15,000 in refuse and electricity bills through lighting upgrades, recycling and composting in 2007. With planned water  xture upgrades, Emanu-El will avoid 100 tons of emissions annually.
