The Solution
There are many simply ways to reduce water use. Below is a list of ideas to get you started:
- Create a water conservation plan. Monitor this plan monthly to track of its effectiveness.
- Increase employee education and awareness of water conservation. Once employees are involved they will be able to assist in the conservation plan. This can be done by simply posting signs in hallways, or including facts in newsletters.
- Do an office walk-through to identify where, when, and how water is being used. Monitor your bill for any changes.
- Check for leaks. Leaky sinks can cost more than $100/month. A simple way to do this is to temporarily shut-down all water-using facilities and read your meter. You'll know you have a leak if your meter moves during this time.
- Upgrade your water using equipment; install faucet aeraters, low-flow shower-heads, and high-efficiency toilets.
- Make sure your landscape design includes plants that are native to your area; use mulch to retain the water.
