The Solution

There are many simply ways to reduce water use.  Below is a list of ideas to get you started:

  1. Create a water conservation plan.  Monitor this plan monthly to track of effectiveness.
  2. Make sure your family knows the importance of water conservation.  Education will help lead to awareness.
  3. Do an home walk-through to identify where, when, and how water is being used.  Monitor your bill for any changes.
  4. Check for leaks.  Leaky sinks can cost more than $100/month.  A simple way to do this is to temporarily shut-down all water-using facilities and read your meter which is typically located ni a sidewalk vault in front of your house. You'll know you have a leak if your meter moves during this time.
  5. Upgrade your water using equipment; install faucet aeraters, low-flow shower-heads, and high-efficiency toilets.
  6. Make sure your landscape design includes plants that are native to your area; use mulch to retain water.
  7. Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they're full.
  8. Turn off the sink when brushing your teeth and shaving.
